How to configure your browser to use the EECE proxy

This How-to is intended for: Staff

How to configure "Internet Explorer" and "Mozilla Firefox" to use the EECE proxy

EECE Proxy

The EECE proxy is for Staff and visitors only.  If you are a student you have to use the UWA proxy.  The configuration for the EECE proxy is the same as for the UWA proxy except the proxy host is "proxy.ee.uwa.edu.au" and the port is "8000".

Configuring your browser

Your browser should be configured so that it:

  • Uses the proxy host "proxy.ee.uwa.edu.au"
  • Uses port "8000"
  • Does not use the proxy for local sites in the "uwa.edu.au" domain (unless you are using the proxy form outside UWA).

Thunderbird

To configure thunderbird select "Options" from the "Tools" menu. In the options window click on "Advanced" select the "Network" tab and then click on the "Settings" button

In the 'Network Settings" window set:

  • "Manual configuration" to "on"
  • "Http Proxy:" to "proxy.ee.uwa.edu.au"
  • "Port:" to "8000"
  • "Use this proxy server for all protocols" to "on"
  • "No Proxy for:" to ".uwa.edu.au" if you run services on localhost then use "localhost,127.0.0.1,.uwa.edu.au"
  • If you are using the proxy form outside UWA to update Unit WWW pages then do NOT set "No Proxy" for "uwa.edu.au"

Internet explorer

To configure internet explorer select "Internet Options" from the "Tools" menu. In the "Internet Options" window select the "Connections" tab and click on "Lan Settings".

In the "Lan Settings" window set:

  • "Use Proxy server ..." to "On"
  • "Address:" to "proxy.ee.uwa.edu.au"
  • "Port:" to "8000"
  • "Bypass proxy server for local addresses" to "On"

If you have multiple connections such as dialup or vpn (eg SNAP) then you will have to set these for each connection.
